Santa Trees and 8 tiny Carribu
Julia is in Christmas heaven. She has fully embraced this holiday. I have never understood the joy of watching a child at Christmas until this year. She loves everything about it in a way I have never seen. She walks around the house singing "Frosty the snowman" all day long. The only movies she will watch are Mickey's Christmas and the Polar Express (of course). Every time we see a Christmas tree she gets very excited and screams "Santa Tree! Santa Tree!!" so that everyone will turn and look. She also loves the story of Baby Jesus. Yesterday I told her it was time for bed and she took her doll and told me that Baby Jesus was going to come to bed with her. It took a while for her to pick up on the difference between reindeer and carribu (how do you spell that?) but she now knows that 8 tiny reindeer pull Santa's sleigh, not carribu. I know what you are all thinking, where in the world did she learn about carribu??? On the Polar Express they run into a herd of carribu and Julia likes that part. Also, the elves. If you think she gets excited about Christmas trees, you should see her when there is an elf. She throws her arms open and screams "ELVES!!!!!!" It's really cute. We got our Christmas tree last week. I would post a picture, but I can't find my camera. It's all blocked off by couches and boxes. I gave Julia a little 18 inch fake tree with some plastic and wood ornaments. She let me know that I can't touch her decorations if she can't touch mine. I can see how that would be fair. We are working on teaching her that mommy is the boss, but that's still in progress.
I think Julia had the best day of her life yesterday. We are in a mommy group down here and while we don't go very often, we went yesterday because they had Santa coming to visit. Julia could hardly wait. I worried that she might chicken out when she saw him, but she was not one bit scared. He was such a sweet Santa and the kids all loved him. He read "The Night Before Christmas" to them and Julia was right up in front, helping turn the pages or pull the different tabs to make the pictures move.
She was the first to sit on his lap (and the last because she wanted another turn) I wasn't going to put Adria on his lap because she has such stranger anxiety that I was afraid she'd have a meltdown and then Julia would be scared too, but Julia was so happy about it that I figured I'd give it a go for the sake of the pictures and Adria, while she wasn't excited, didn't get too upset.
Julia still is talking about Santa reading a story. She really enjoyed it!
