To Julia and Adria

I realize that it is inevitable that within the next ten years one or both of you will come to me demanding your own room. I want to tell you that I tried to give you that. For 5 months we tried it. Last night we finally gave in to your demands to share a room again. I want you to remember that when we moved Adria's bed into Julia's room, you were both so excited that you stayed up talking and giggling almost 2 hours past bedtime. Julia also took a nap today (which hasn't happened for a long time) because she wanted to sleep with her sister. Just remember when you want your own room that you are really blessed to have a best friend sleeping in the next bed.

Mermaids and fish

We were at the swimming pool yesterday with some friends. Julia has been talking about mermaids all the time lately so I wasn't too surprised when she became a mermaid in the water. She wanted Adria and I to help her find her "mermaid kingdom" so she could go home. What did surprise me is when it was time to get out of the pool for the mandatory break they make the kids take...Julia refused to walk. She locked her feet together in a "tail" and started using her arms to move along the sidewalk. I think from the looks I was getting some of the moms thought I had a handicapped child that I was ignoring. I told her that she couldn't drag her body along the concrete and Adria looked at me and said, "Mermaids swim, not walk." Thanks Adria. So I had to carry Julia the rest of the afternoon if I wanted her out of the water. I thought it was pretty funny.
Also, Adria decided she didn't want to be a mermaid and I said, "That's ok, you're my cute little fish." She looked up and said, "Meow, meow, meow." I said, "Fish don't meow, honey." And she said, "I'm a catfish." I laughed pretty hard.

Funny comments

I want to share two more funny things Julia said this week. First, she and Adria were having a rough day, fighting over everything and driving their parents to distraction. They were not listening to me when Ben finally came in and said, "If there is one more fight, you're both going to bed. You need to listen to Mommy. I don't care who starts it, you're both going to bed." Julia immediately replied, "But Daddy, Adria isn't going to listen in the future. I don't want to go to bed."
And then this morning Julia climbed into bed with me and said, "I can speak English and Spanish. In English I say, "Hello!" and in Spanish I say, "Good morning!"

The month of rain

rain rain rain rain rain rain rain
That has been the month of July so far.
But it's warm rain and my girls love it.
So do I.
When they nap, I sit right by the window and listen to it rain while I work on the computer or I just watch the water run off the roof.
Julia loves the rain this much.
I can't get a good picture of Adria because she won't hold still.
Her dance has a song that goes with it, "Run in the rain. Rain rain rain rain. Run in the rain."

Funny girls

Over the last few days the girls have said some funny things I wanted to write down. Julia couldn't sleep and I went in to her room
Me: Julia, you need to go to sleep
Ju: I do sleep but the noises keep waking me up. The owls make noises and the bears make great noises and the dragons go boom, boom!
Me: Julia, there aren't any animals in our house
Ju: Yeah, because the dragons actually say "Raaawr!!"
I was putting Julia to bed and she wanted me to sleep with her so I told her I was going to sleep in my bed with Daddy. She said, "Well, tell Daddy that the Holy Ghost talks to us and he should listen because that will make him happy." Then she laid down to sleep.
I was drinking a watermelon slush from Sonic and Adria came into the room. I offered her a drink. She took a tiny sip then ran out. I was just wondering why she didn't drink more when she ran back at top speed.
A: I forgot! I forgot! I forgot! I forgot!
Me: What did you forget?
A: I forgot to drink more.

Fireworks!

We had a great 4th of July. The fireworks out here were amazing. Everywhere you looked all weekend long there were firework shows. We took the girls to one of the biggest ones. We didn't want to wait for hours to get a good seat in the main area, so we went around the lake and watched. Personally, I think it was the best seat in the house because there were only a few families over there so the girls could run around and lay on the grass and whatever while we waited for it to start and we had an awesome view! My camera battery died though so I don't have any pictures of the girls. They loved it! Well, Julia loved it. She couldn't get enough. Her description of the fireworks when they started was, "They are so sparkley, I can't believe it!" When I told her it was done, she said, "The fireworks need to take a rest. Can we come back tomorrow when they come back?" Adria had a different take on it. She loved it for the first five minutes. She gasped and "oooohed" and "ahhhed" and clapped her hands, but then she got a bit overwhelmed. She buried her head in my shoulder and covered her ears and kept saying that she wanted to go into the apartments behind us. Ben and I loved it though, it was a totally amazing show.
