Bathtub Fun

I think that most mothers will quite easily relate to the trauma of being stuck in a tiny space with sick kids. By the end of the day, everyone involved is bored out of their minds, cranky and did I mention bored? Well, that was how my day was feeling around 5pm. So, I decided to find something to entertain me and the girls. I made fingerpaints from dishsoap, cornstarch and food coloring and let the girls play in the tub. I read about it on a blog and thought it could be fun for a rainy day. Today wasn't rainy, but it might as well have been. Both Julia and Adria have come down with a nasty cough and I have no car so I'm confined to the house on all fronts. Anyway, it wasn't until Julia had started smearing the paint all down herself, Adria and the bathtub walls that I started to worry that the food coloring might not wash off as easily as the blog had suggested. I started having visions of Julia being a rainbow colored child for the next few days. Not to mention the horror of having my bathtub look like that the next time company came over. Luckily, the girls had a fun time. Other than my shirt that Julia tried to paint on, everything washed clean really easily. I couldn't get a good picture of Adria because she kept slipping in the water or Julia would pull on the camera to see what I was doing. She had globs in her hair at one point. It was pretty funny. Julia was very, very sad when the paint was gone. It lasted a really long time though and helped the evening go more quickly. The only downside was the the food coloring turned the water a very yucky color and I couldn't bring myself to wash Julia's hair in it. But the fun outweight the nasty colored water. We will definately do it again!

Is there an exact recipe for the paint? If so, will you let me know what it is ... I have several nieces and nephews with little ones and I think they'd love this idea! Thanks, Janette

The website said 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1/3 cup of dishsoap. I didn't measure exactly though and mine turned out fine. Have fun!
