The Elf on a Shelf

Many of you may have heard about the newest Christmas tradition taking over homes. Its the Elf on a Shelf, an adorable little guy who comes to watch the kids and report to Santa about if they are naughty or nice. Santa has sent an elf to our house to watch over Julia. Julia has named him Loveabove. Every night he goes to report to Santa and so she has to find him every morning. He also goes to watch her at school (using his invisibility of course) and so she gets to find him when she gets home. Sometimes he forgets to pick a new spot though...um, yeah, he forgets. After Julia wanted to know why other kids' elves were doing silly things and her elf wasn't, I had a talk with Loveabove and told him he needed to step up his game. So he started being silly. He dyed the milk green when our cousins were here for a sleepover.

He also made snowmen out of marshmallows.

And put snowflakes on our window.

Sometimes he just hides in silly places.

Sometimes he brings things for Julia if she's been really good.

One day she found him having a tea party with her other toys. Unfortunately Kara came in and wanted to play. Julia was really upset because we told her that the elf loses his magic if you touch him. We had a talk with Santa though and he gave the elf's magic back since Kara was just a baby and didn't know better. Whew. Close call. I made Kara reenact the scene for some pictures.

I really have loved this fun game and we are definately going to make it a yearly tradition!

What a fun tradition with the "Elf on a Shelf." Isn't there a book on him too? I have heard of it, but not seen it. Looks like a lot of fun. I will have to start that tradition next year.
